Rolex sparked a particular fascination with watches and the intricate world of mechanical timepieces. I originally started this piece as part of a series exploring luxury objects, focusing on their design, craftsmanship, and iconic status. But as I worked on the drawing, it gradually became something more.

I became fascinated by the precision behind these watches—the materials, the engineering, and the countless small details that come together to create something instantly recognizable. A Rolex is more than simply a way of telling time; it represents craftsmanship, history, and a design language that has remained iconic for generations.

This particular model, with its distinctive red and blue “Pepsi” bezel, was an obvious choice. Its combination of functionality, heritage, and unmistakable character made it a perfect subject to explore through hyperrealism.

In many ways, this drawing became my introduction to an entirely new world—and the beginning of an interest in watches and movements that would later inspire me to look beyond the exterior and explore the mechanics hidden inside them.
