Supreme AF1 is based on a sneaker that has become an icon in its own right — the Nike Air Force 1.
The artwork brings together the clean, all-white silhouette of the classic Air Force 1 with the instantly recognizable visual identity of Supreme. Almost the entire composition is kept within whites and subtle grey tones, allowing the red laces and Supreme details to become the natural focal point.
It was this contrast that first made the subject interesting to me.
From a distance, the shoes appear clean and minimal. Move closer, and the simplicity begins to disappear. Stitching, perforations, leather textures and tiny variations across the white surfaces gradually reveal themselves.
The result is an artwork that explores the details behind an object that has moved beyond its original purpose to become part of fashion, street culture and contemporary design.
Drawing an almost entirely white subject presented a particular challenge.
Without strong colors to define the shapes, the shoes had to be constructed through extremely subtle variations in light, shadow and tone. Every seam, perforation and change in the leather surface was built gradually by hand using layers of colored pencil.
Against these restrained tones, the intense red details create a sharp graphic contrast and give Supreme AF1 its distinctive character.
